What do you love about FIDI?
I love the sense of community that has developed in FiDi over the last few years. I always tell peoplethat I grew up on a cul-de-sac in California and just because our kids are being raised in the City, doesn’t mean they can’t experience close friendships, see familiar faces and feel like they live in a safe environment. The residents have really rallied to make that an expectation of living in FiDi and I love it.
What is your favorite restaurant? What is your favorite dish there?
My favorite restaurant in FiDi is DaClaudio. The generous nature of the owners, the simple but modern décor and the incredible Pollo alla Milanese is delicious. It is Amish chicken with argula and a cherry tomato salad with parmegiano.
Your favorite coffee shop or bar?
Coffee helps jumpstart my day and I love Pike Place coffee from Starbucks. But, the small biz owner in me loves R&R Coffee. And to end the day, there is nothing better than a glass of wine at Felice at Gild Hall. I don’t think I could choose one over the other. So, they are my equal beverage faves!
Your favorite outdoor activity?
I love taking our sports gear out to Washington Market Park or the plaza at Zeytuna and throwing the football with my 7 year old, kicking the soccer ball to my 5 year old or getting everyone on the swings. Being outdoors is great in the City and simply strolling through the neighborhoods is a favorite activity.
Best thing about fall/winter in FIDI
I love dressing layers, drinking hot chocolate with the kids and discovering new things to do in the City. Inevitably, the kids will get bored doing the same activities, so it forces us to find new places, new restaurants and fun indoor spaces that may not yet be on the map.
Best thing about spring/summer in FIDI
I love flip flop weather and as a California native, I try to stretch that out as long as possible. I love taking the kids to splash parks, City playgrounds that have sprinkler features like the Imagination Playground and spending the day at Governor’s Island. I love that the sun sets later in the Summer and allows us a chance to stay out late and enjoy the City. Living in FiDi and close to the water means we have a chance to be outside at Pier 15, Battery Park and everywhere in between.
What does our neighborhood need?
I would love to see more green spaces in FIDi. We have great retail, great restaurants and great services in the neighborhood. But, not enough green space to have a variety of sports happening at the same time, such as Washington Market Park or Rockefeller Park.
On a Sunday afternoon I like to….
Wander with no plans, take the kids out for an unknown and unplanned adventure, drink wine somewhere fun and have great food with the kids. If we can sneak in some great views of the water or Statue of Liberty, then that is just icing on the cake. Sunday’s are my favorite day because it always feels like there is time for one more fun thing to do and we get to sneak it in, even though the reality is that Monday is just around the corner.
