First introduced in 2007 exclusively through Selima Optique’s NY and Paris locations, RVS Eyewear was brought to life with the goal of bringing back the quality and originality to design that was put into eyewear of the past. By producing each RVS frame in limited quantities RVS assures their customers they are purchasing a truly one of a kind piece of eyewear while standing by the motto “quality over quantity.” Today RVS Eyewear is produced in hand by both Japanese and Italian artisans in factories with over 60 years of tradition in the eyewear business. Each RVS frame is made from only the best materials. Every final detail on each RVS frame is finalized in hand, down to the signature hand painted red hinge screws.
Below, we speak to FIDI resident Vidal Erkohen, the Founder and Design Director of RVS Eyewear.
What do you love about the Seaport/FIDI?
I love being close by the river and being able to go for a morning walk , run or bike ride within just a few minutes of leaving my apartment. Being away from the city’s noise after 6-7PM is also great as it tends to be more silent around here after that time. Of course transportation and the fact its so easy to be almost anywhere in the city either by sea or subway is also a great advantage.
What are your favorite restaurants?
We really love having sushi at Suteishi as a family or having a quick bite at Luke’s Lobster and without a doubt have the lobster roll when there. I do think however there is room and need for some smaller specialty cuisine based restaurants/bistros with more character to open up in the area.
Your favorite coffee shop or bar?
I love going bar hopping on Stone Street and mingling with crowds as well as having a morning coffee at Jacks after dropping off the kids to school.
What would you like to see in the neighborhood?
I would definitely love to see some more specialty and design oriented shops along with some smaller jazz bars or bistros which I think would be a great fit especially in Seaport.
How do you see the Seaport in the future?
I see Seaport as a fast growing area with tons of potential to bring in people who are interested in products and cuisine they would usually only find in “hipper” areas of NY that are sadly to crowded with visitors and over saturated with to many boutiques to pick from. I think specialty shops focused on design and quality rather then tourist attractions will bring in a great crowd of people who are looking for some new flavor in the city as well as Seaport in general.
My favorite song is..
Getz / Gilberto anything on that album will do.
Last meal on earth?
Sweet bread and a glass of red wine on a cold winter day in Paris under the snow
Your favorite piece of clothing?
A blazer, it is indeed the most useful and essential item in any men’s wardrobe .
Can’t leave home without…
My sunglasses. Ever.
